Panel discussion at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2019
“In an expert panel consisting of artists, curators and academics we will discuss the histories as well as the current practices of moving image art in their national, inter-regional and international contexts. As diverse as the landscape of artists’ films is, are there overarching themes or tendencies? Who are the main actors providing a platform and funding for these works? What are the collaborative initiatives and networks in the region? These are some of the questions we will discuss together with our panelists: Madiha Aijaz (Pakistan), artist; Hama Haruka (Japan), curator and coordinator of Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival; Nguyen Trinh Thi (Vietnam), artist and founder of Hanoi Doc Lab; Su Hui-Yu (Taiwan), artist.
The panel will be moderated by May Adadol Ingawanji (curator, researcher and co-director of CREAM) and Philippa Lovatt (lecturer and primary investigator at SEACRN) will give an introduction.” IFFR
This panel discuss was artist Madiha Aijaz’s last public appearance. She passed away shortly after attending IFFR 2019 to present her work These Silences Are All the Words (2019). Read the festival’s commemoration, alongside a report of the panel discussion here.
